Maroubra Beach studio

Felicity practices and teaches from her home studio at Maroubra Beach.

Her studio, Potter by the Sea, is decorated with large tiles inspired by the plants and animals of Maroubra Beach and Malabar Headland (below).

The studio is located in her garden and is powered by solar panels. It is equipped with pottery wheel, electric kiln and work benches.

Raku firing

At her studio, Felicity usually fires her work in her solar-powered electric kiln.

She is also interested in Raku firing, a technique that originated in Kyoto, Japan in the 16th century. This technique involves removing pottery from the kiln while it is red hot and cooling it rapidly in combustible materials (paper or sawdust). This process results in unpredictable colours and finishes and creates unique pieces.

Felicity assists the Ceramic Study Group in Sydney on their Raku firing days.
